Williams
General Counsel
I grew up in Spokane, Washington, attended
Carleton College in Minnesota where I received
my BA in International Relations, and received
my JD from Lewis and Clark Law School in
Portland. I come from a family that’s been
very active in the labor movement, and got my
start in the labor movement through the Union
Summer Program doing house calls to home health
care workers in the Bay Area for SEIU Local 616.
My interest in working to improve people’s lives
through organized labor, as well as my desire to
improve my Spanish skills, next took me to
Santiago, Chile, where I spent time as a
Fulbright scholar learning about the working
conditions and organizing strategies of female
housekeepers there. Through my research, I
become even more aware of the precarious
situation of workers in the informal sector,
particularly women and members of minority
groups, and the importance of solidarity and the
union structure in their lives. While
attending law school, I clerked in a number of
positions that involved advocating for workers
rights both at the local, state, and
international level. In my spare time, I
enjoy cycling, hiking, and other outdoor
activities. I look forward to assisting
members by serving as their zealous advocate in
the grievance process.
