Dan Clay - President ElectDear 555 Members:

As most of you are aware, UFCW Local 555’s recent elections have concluded and Jeff Anderson and I have been elected to serve you.

Although the transfer of power was scheduled to take place in January of 2009, an agreement has been reached between Local 555’s current and future administrations to transfer power sooner for the purpose of moving ahead with the business of the members.

Currently UFCW Local 555 has bargaining taking place for our Portland Area Grocery, Meat, and CCK members, our Bay Area Hospital members, our Lower Umpqua Hospital members, our Danner Boot members, the non-food employees at The Dalles Fred Meyer, and some of our Kaiser members. Waiting for an eventual change in union leadership had an adverse impact on the process of bargaining any current contracts.

On November 6, 2008, UFCW Local 555’s Executive Board accepted the resignations of President Gene Pronovost and Secretary-Treasurer Jeff McDonald. As a result of the actions taken by the Executive Board, I have been appointed as acting President of Local 555.

On November 7, 2008, we contacted representatives of the grocery chains in the Portland area and have began the process of getting negotiations back on track

Our full attention is on the task at hand; bargaining strong contracts for Local 555’s membership is our top priority.

Check back with our website www.groceryworkersunited555.org for continuing updates.

I look forward to serving you.

Dan Clay
