Unity Negotiations: the first day

Here’s the 411 on the first day of Unity Negotiations.

This was a big day: the first time our bargaining team met with employers. We came with proposals in hand, developed after many team meetings, time spent reviewing survey results, and much discussion with our fellow members. We told of our struggles trying to make a living with insufficient wages and hours.

We remain committed to our collective goal of achieving a contract that improves lives. We discussed:

• a minimum guarantee of hours per week (based on full-time/part-time)
• more full-time positions
• consistent scheduling
• significant wage increases to help address the cost of housing, etc.
• one contract for all

Your employers chose not to respond. As we proceed with negotiations at our next meeting (set for July 10th/11th) we will demand a response to our proposals.

Watch your union bulletin board + your email + the NW Labor Press + www.ufcw555.org for more information. Oh, and ask your Rep, Shop Steward, or Bargaining Team Member for the latest buttons, addressing the need for more hours.
